Organizing a Workshop on Using the Data of the Central Bureau of Statistics in Preparing Academic Research

The International Youth Exchange Program (Zajel) –Public Relations Department and the Office of the University President Assistant for Graduate Affairs organized a workshop on the use of the data of the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics in preparing academic research.
The meeting was administered by Mr. Waheed Shahrouri, Director of the Northern West Bank Department in the Palestinian. Mr. Shahrouri is one of the administrators of the Central Bureau of Statistics and supervises the management of field operations for the Bureau in Northern West Bank and the collection of data from different sources. He first worked as a statistical assistant at the Agriculture Statistics Department. He then worked as Director of the General Census of Population, Housing and Establishments in Nablus in 2007. Currently, he is the Director of the Northern West Bank Department in the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics.
Mr. Shahrouri spoke about the data that is produced by the Bureau, production mechanism, how to benefit from it, the method used to obtain the raw material for conducting scientific research, in addition to the assistance that the Scientific Research Center at the Bureau offers to university researchers.
Mr. Shahrouri spoke about the establishment of the Central Bureau of Statistics in 1993, its work, the mechanism of using its data through the webpage, the distribution of materials, types of statistics that are accomplished by the Bureau, sources of data, services to the public, in addition to the raw data that the Bureau provides.
The workshop also included a presentation about the statistical data related to the population, agriculture and economy. Mr. Shahrouri explained that the efforts that the Bureau is making focus on the Palestinian individual and the related issues such as education, security, land, agriculture, tourism and development. The Bureau has produced a number of surveys related to political governance.
Moreover, Mr. Shahrouri spoke about the importance of taking advantage of these surveys to enable researchers prepare documented scientific research that is objective and credible.
The Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics has been granted the ISO international certificate and its data is known for being official and accurate.
